An afternoon of Connection, Inspiration, Awareness and Hope

Saturtday, 11 October: We held a Pink October Lunch at D’Aria Winery as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Women from across the community came together in the spirit of Inspiration, Awareness and Hope to hear and enjoy interesting discussions over a wonderful luncheon.

We were honoured to have as our guest speakers, Rachel Kolisi and Dr Shas Cacala, head of breast and endocrine surgery at Tygerberg Hospital, who shared insightful and inspiring messages on mental health, self-care, and the life-saving value of regular screenings.he

Matrix outreach at the Athlone Community

Friday, 15 August: We took part in the City of Cape Town Matrix’s outreach at the Athlone Community Centre, continuing the celebration of Women’s Day and emphasising the importance of women’s participation in leadership and the economy.

Community members had the opportunity to engage with a range of support organisations, including the Department of Social Development, the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children, Mosaic, The Trauma Centre, the City of Cape Town’s health and wellness services, Correctional Services, Taurus Gas, and the SPCA.

Saturday, 9 August: In collaboration with TLC Outreach Projects, we had the privilege of hosting a truly special Women’s Day event, and what an incredible day it was!

We were deeply honoured to welcome Rachel Kolisi as our guest speaker, whose words of encouragement, resilience, and empowerment touched every heart in the room.

The room was filled with beautiful, strong women who came out in numbers to celebrate, learn, and inspire one another. The energy was electric, the stories were moving, and the connections made will leave a lasting impact.

GBV Awareness Outreach at Table Bay Mall

Friday, 13 June: We had a meaningful and impactful morning at Table Bay Mall, engaging with members of the community about GBV Awareness and distributing Kolisi Foundation Power-2-Packs, in collaboration with SAPS Table View, helping to raise awareness and support for important social issues while strengthening community ties.

Celebrating our Newest Volunteers

Thursday, 5 June: We proudly celebrated our newest volunteers, who successfully completed the CIC Personal Growth and Trauma Support training courses!

We can’t wait for them to join our dedicated team, bringing fresh energy and skills to serve our communities.

Their commitment will undoubtedly enhance our ability to offer hope, support, and empowerment to individuals in crisis.

RES Healthcare Community Healthcare Day at Joe Slovo

Sunday, 18 May: Our CIC members were honoured to participate in a community healthcare day held yesterday at the Marconi Beam Primary School in Joe Slovo, led by a team from RES Healthcare.

With the support of over 65 volunteers from various community-driven organisations — including medical doctors, speech therapists, occupational therapists, audiologists, a breast cancer awareness group, and others — more than 300 children and adults were screened and provided with essential healthcare services.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Outreach

Wednesday, 26 March: Today, we partnered with SAPS Table View at their Customer Service Centre (CSC) to hold a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness outreach. The focus was on educating and empowering vulnerable groups within our community and raising awareness of GBV.

Our Social Auxiliary Worker, Phumza, was there to engage with visitors to the CSC and also to conduct a survey with visitors to gauge their understanding of GBV and to determine if they would like further information.

‘Power 2 You’ bags from the Kolisi Foundation were handed out. These packs included a self-defence spray (with directions on how to use it), a card with important telephone numbers, a whistle, details of the Community Intervention Centre, a Women’s Journal, as well as a pamphlet on GBV, containing important information and contact details.

Celebrating International Women's Day

Thursday, 13 March: Our CIC Social Worker, Francisca, along with Phumza, our CIC Social Auxiliary Worker, facilitated an enlightening Human Rights workshop at St. Oswald’s Anglican Church in Milnerton.

With the support of Reverend Selwyn, they imparted essential knowledge to attendees regarding their fundamental human rights. They also provided practical guidance on accessing crucial resources, obtaining legal protection, and utilising available social services for psychosocial support in the unfortunate event of encountering abuse.

Celebrating International Women's Day

Saturday, 8 March: To celebrate International Women’s Day, the theme of which is “For all Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, our CIC Social Worker, Francisca, and Phumza, our CIC Social Auxiliary Worker, held a GBV workshop for members of the Dunoon community.

Golden Years Senior Citizen Club

Tuesday, 24 December: A big thank you to John Farelo for generously donating Christmas gift hampers to the members of the Golden Years Senior Citizen Club.

John is well-known for his annual walks to raise awareness for the national 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

Trauma Containment Workshop at the British High Commission.

Over two impactful days, we recently had the privilege of facilitating a Trauma Containment Workshop at the British High Commission. This interactive and insightful session brought together professionals committed to fostering resilience and emotional well-being in their environments.

Barrydale GBV Awareness Outreach.

 On Friday, 6 December, the CIC team travelled to Barrydale to support Desi and our CIC satellite with a GBV outreach campaign, engaging with a large number of residents.

Table View SAPS GBV Awareness Outreach.

On Friday, 29 November, we were back at Table View Bayside Mall as we joined Table View SAPS for a GBV Awareness Outreach.

We were so pleased by how many passers-by wanted to know more about why we were there and the services provided by the CIC.

Circle of Compassion: Empowerment and Upliftment Outreach

On Wednesday, 27 November 2024, our CIC Social Worker, Francisca, was invited to speak at the Circle of Compassion NPO in Brooklyn, where they focus on widows in the community with Empowerment and Upliftment.

Francisca shared insights about the CIC, including its founding, our mission, and service delivery areas. She highlighted our work with GBV survivors and discussed ways women can amplify their voices to support one another.

Additionally, each widow shared her personal journey and the struggles she has faced.

CIC Personal Growth and Trauma Support Training Courses Graduates

On Thursay, 3 October 2024, We proudly gathered to celebrate our latest group of volunteers who have successfully completed the CIC Personal Growth and Trauma Support training courses.

We look forward to them joining our existing volunteers to serve our communities by offering hope, support, and empowerment to people in crisis.

 

Table View SAPS Community Outreach Campaign

Friday, 23 August 2024, our CIC manager and volunteers, along with other community-related organisations, participated in the Table View Police Station’s Community Outreach Campaign.
We had a wonderful time meeting members of our community and telling them all about the therapeutic and counselling resources we offer to victims of trauma, such as victims of GBV, providing hope and striving to stabilise them emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.
Each visitor left with a Power 2 You pack provided by the Kolisi Foundation.

Barrydale CIC Satellite Launch

On Thursday, 8 August, we launched our new CIC satellite initiative in Barrydale at their police station .
Daphne , our CIC manager, explained to the attending community leaders and guests the role that the CIC plays in the communities in which we operate, namely to provide counselling resources to provide hope and to assist improving the emotional and psychological well-being of people in crisis.
We had a wonderful time meeting members of the local community and distributing Power 2 You packs provided by the Kolisi Foundation.
Desiree, who was previously a CIC supervisor, will be leading our trauma support services in Barrydale.

Mandela Day

On July 18, CIC supervisors and volunteers spent a wonderful Mandela Day expressing their gratitude to the police and hospitals in the Table View, Milnerton and Melkbosstrand areas, by providing CIC-branded cupcakes.
These services all play an important part in the free 24-hour trauma counselling support provided by the CIC.

CIC Celebrates 23 Years

 

On Jun 6, we held one of our CIC monthly team meetings, where we celebrated our 23rd Birthday. 🥳
We look forward to many more years serving our communities, offering hope, support and empowerment to people in crisis.

Community Outreach

During February ’24, our CIC volunteers, along with other community-related organisations,  participated in the Table View Police Station’s Community Outreach Campaign.
This provided us with the opportunity to share with our community the therapeutic and counselling resources we offer to victims of trauma.

16 Days of Activism March

We joined Table View SAPS and a number of other organisations, including TLC, CPF, and Living Legends in taking to the streets this morning, as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, marching from the TV SAPS station to Church on the Rise.

In December, as part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign, CIC team members, Francisca, Phumza and Marion, recently hosted a High Tea, that included a Gender-Based Violence workshop. “Power 2 You” packs, donated by our partner the Kolisi Foundation, were also handed out.

Kolisi Foundation Connect Reteat

Members of our CIC team recently attended a Kolisi Foundation Connect Retreat in November  2023, with organisations that included Justice Desk Africa, TLC and others. Held at the Westin Hotel, Cape Town, the time together was an opportunity to relax and enjoy “me time”, as well as reflect on the year’s achievements and goals, while also acknowledging the collaborations and relationships that have been built over time.
